Ryan Scafuro is an American filmmaker and director of photography currently living in London. He is a member of the Local 600 Cinematographers Guild in the US, and BAFTA Crew in the UK, and holds dual US/EU nationality, allowing him to work throughout the US and Europe without a visa. With two decades of industry experience, his work has been broadcast worldwide and featured at prestigious international film festivals such as Sundance, Tribeca, Sheffield Doc/Fest, Hot Docs and many others. From commercial to documentary to scripted comedy, his varied portfolio presents unique style of visual storytelling where art, empathy and humour live side by side.
He most recently produced, co-wrote and shot the documentary Phantom Cowboys which premiered at the 2018 Tribeca Film Festival and has been awarded best documentary and cinematography prizes at the Sidewalk, New Hampshire, and Lighthouse film festivals. His past documentaries American Renaissance and Bending Steel have also premiered at Tribeca. Bending Steel was acquired by DirecTV, won the Cinematic Vision and Audience Awards at the Camden Film Festival, and was nominated for a Cinema Eye Honor. On the small screen, his cinematography credits include the BBC, PBS, Fox, ESPN, and all major networks.
